SEXY SIRENS STRUT THEIR STUFF IN GLASTONBURY
Two well-known artists will team up for the exhibition Sirens in Stockings at Glastonbury’s Galleryeight in July (14-26).

Somerset artist Nancy Farmer, whose work mixes humour, mythology and satire will be exhibiting with Nottingham-based Charlotte Thomson, an artist and illustrator well known for creating work inspired by the 1920s era through to the 1950s.

Grotesque and decadent characters with a touch of curious normality are favourite subjects of Nancy’s. In addition to a formidable Modern Medusa, The Sirens and Stockings exhibition will herald the unveiling of images depicting the bizarrely glamorous ladies from ‘The Department of Dangerous and Unusual Canapés’.

Nancy’s other works depict monsters, demons, peculiar mermaids and a shoal of seductive sirens. These characters are often found relaxing, glass of wine in hand, preferring to hang out at social gatherings than in the grim and smoky underworld.

Charlotte specialises in creating fun and evocative images, which reflect her involvement in the UK burlesque and entertainment scene. She enjoys mixing her love of past eras with that of ancient myths to create her own take on some of legend's most feisty femme fatales!

Often including portraiture, Charlotte’s work regularly features in leading contemporary art magazines and is used by award-winning advertising design companies.

Both Nancy and Charlotte exhibit internationally and have developed a growing reputation resulting in their work being much sought after. A range of original paintings and illustrations will be for sale during the exhibition, along with prints, cards and calendars.

The Sirens in Stockings exhibition takes place upstairs at Galleryeight, 8 Market Place, Glastonbury and runs from Tuesday 14 July until Sunday 26 July 2009.
